The Queensland University Musical Society (QUMS) is excited to present our Semester 2, 2026 concert, Main Character Energy, a showcase of music featured in films. This concert's repertoire features 13 pieces from a diverse range of musical styles, including You Will Be Found from multi-award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen, Dies Irae and Lacrimosa from W.A. Mozart's Requiem, and an arrangement of Rainbow Connection from The Muppets by our own tenor section leader James Topping. Our authentic delivery of intense Mozart moments in combination with melodic gospel and flowing, emotional melodies is bound to keep you on your toes throughout the entire performance (or give you whiplash, as our musical director Guillaume would say). Conducted by Guillaume Lemay-Yates and Cloud Tan. Accompanied by Grant Comin. Location: The concert will be held in the GHD Auditorium, which is inside the Advanced Engineering Building (49) at The University of Queensland, St Lucia.  UQ is very accessible by public transport, bicycle, or car. The best parking is the Grassy Knoll car park (P11) or on Sir William MacGregor Drive near-by. A limited number of accessible car parks are available closer to the building. QUMS is excited to announce that internationally acclaimed choral conductor Tori Longdon will be running an exclusive workshop for QUMS members on the evening of Wednesday 9th September 2026 - this will be during regular rehearsal time. Suggested donation $10 per person. Contributions over and above gratefully accepted, however not expected. Tori Longdon is an internationally recognised choral conductor, chorus director, vocal coach, educator, and adjudicator, known for her work with leading choirs across the UK and around the world. She is the Principal Conductor of the Covent Garden Chorus and Associate Chorus Director of the London Philharmonic Choir, helping to prepare ensembles for conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Edward Gardner, and Vladimir Jurowski. ​Internationally recognised for her work on King's Coronation Concert in 2023, Tori coached eighteen choirs from across the United Kingdom for the Coronation Concert. She recently chorus-mastered her first BBC Proms concert at London's Royal Albert Hall, regularly leads conducting masterclasses, and serves as an adjudicator at festivals and competitions worldwide. Her work takes her to such places as Australia, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, and more. ​An experienced educator, Tori has lectured at the Royal Academy of Music and the Junior Guildhall Conservatoire. She is also a conductor for BBC One's Songs of Praise and an adjudicator for BBC Young Choir of the Year. In 2025, she joined the international jury for the Choir of the World competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and will return to the panel in 2026 and 2027.

This semester we're running an intensive weekend, equating several rehearsals' worth of learning into one and a half days. But don't worry, it's not all hard work. You'll also get a genuinely fun weekend with a great bunch of people (we may be biased, but we stand by it). Expect plenty of social activities to bond with your fellow choir members, plus some accent method breathing to help take our singing to the next level. The price of your ticket includes: Your attendance both days of the weekend intensive (note - there are no single day/partial ticket options available) Morning and afternoon tea Saturday, morning tea Sunday, and tea and coffee all weekend (bring your own lunch both days) Professional music direction, conducting, and accompanist for the full weekend Social activities, friendly competitions, and plenty of good vibes Full weekend schedule to be released closer to the date. Expect around 9am to 5pm on Saturday, and 9am to 1pm on Sunday. If there is enough interest, we could also look to have an optional, pay your own way social event on the Saturday night. Every year, QUMS sings a whole choir gig at the midnight memorial ceremony for ANZAC Day in the city centre, hosted by the charity group Toc H Australia. We will be performing Abide With Me, Be still my soul (finlandia), as well as the Australian and Aotearoa (New Zealand) national anthems. We'll arrange a social gathering nearby after this performance, so please join us there if you're not too tired afterwards. Please let us know if you will be attending the performance by grabbing a ticket below. This is important so we can keep track of numbers and ensure member safety on the night. Please also reach out to Haise (Alto Section Leader) if you need a lift either to or from the gig/pancakes, and we'll do our best to arrange for you.
