QUMS Semester 1 2015 Rehearsal Camp - DISNEY!
Camp Moogerah, 880 Lake Moogerah Rd, Moogerah Qld 4309
01-05-2015 18:00 – 03-05-2015 16:00
The QUMS Weekend Rehearsal Camps are an important part of the rehearsal schedule, and also an awful lot of fun, so don't miss out! Below are answers to some FAQs about camp: Rehearsal camps are intensive rehearsal sessions which usually happen twice a year. These take place somewhere out of Brisbane (though not too far away!) and are a great excuse to get out of town get to know your fellow choristers eat lots and have fun. There is also quite a lot of singing involved and they're the best way to learn your parts very well. We don't actually go camping with tents and bonfires - though the latter have made appearances in the past! Usually we hold them in places like conference centres school/scout/guide camps and so on. The structure of camp is generally as follows: Arrive on Friday evening. The Friday night doesn't feature any rehearsals but is a chance for you to get there settle in have a relaxed dinner with other choristers and enjoy general socialising and a few games. Dinner will be served from about 7pm but if you're arriving later than that don't worry - if we know you're coming we'll save some for you.> Rehearse all day Saturday (starting at 9.30am) with breaks for meals and some socialising (and free time to wander and explore the area or avail yourself of the QUMS Bar). Saturday night is the main social occasion with a theme dinner that everyone is encouraged to wear costume to (the theme this semester is Disney so there's plenty of room for interpretation be it traditional or out-of-the-box) followed by Revue. Revue is a chance for you to perform something for your fellow choristers and have them perform for you - we see any range of acts from songs or instrumental pieces to skits poems dance - you name it! You don't have to perform but it's all part of the fun... We rehearse again on Sunday again starting at 9.30am pack away our things clean up any mess we've made and clear out around 4pm. What should I bring? Well everyone needs different things but this is a good general checklist: Your music - and a 2B pencil eraser and sealable water bottle Bedding - Pillow sheets blanket or sleeping bag etc Weather-appropriate clothing enough to last 2 nights Toiletries: soap shampoo conditioner hand sanitiser etc Towel Sun safety: hat sunscreen sunglasses Any medication you might require; First Aid Kit if you have one; tissues and wet wipes1 roll toilet paper Mobile phone and charger Camera Something to occupy you while other sections are rehearsing: books knitting etc Snacks in case you get hungry between meals - though we will have chocolates and lollies available A joke (preferably a good one) and a revue act! How much does it cost? Camp costs $70 for the whole weekend. You are welcome to make a payment arrangement with the treasurer. All meals (Friday dinner through to Sunday afternoon tea) are provided in the cost of camp which also covers accommodation for 2 nights. If you can't make it for the whole weekend the day rate which includes one day and one night is $40. What are we eating? Meals are being arranged and cooked by our Concert Manager Paul so thanks to him for taking on this responsibility! If you have allergies to anything now is the time to tell us - there is a section on the rego form for this. (Allergies = "I will need medical attention if I eat this" not "I don't like spinach that much"). We will be calling for helpers in the kitchen for various meals but Paul will ask for this as we go... Do I have to come to camp? Two nights is a long time to spend away from work/my family/Brisbane. It's too expensive. It's too far away. Do I have to? Well you don't have to... but it's definitely highly recommended. Apart from the fact that camp is loads of fun this is the main chance to leap ahead with the learning of our semester's music with the weekend being worth five regular Wednesday night rehearsals! If you can't make it to camp at all you'll need to make sure you catch up with everyone else. If you can come to some of camp but not all this is great too; some heavy rehearsing is better than none. We try to keep camp costs as low as possible and payment plans are available, so have a chat with our friendly treasurer. Camps are indeed outside the Brisbane metropolitan area but this is all part of the fun of camp; treat it like an adventure with singing! If you don't feel like driving out there yourself or if you can't drive out there yourself don't worry, we'll arrange car-pooling.

A Patriotic Event
Brisbane City Hall
14:00 – 16:00
A Patriotic Event recreates the atmosphere and enthusiasm of an Australia at the outbreak of war. Rousing choruses, songs, speeches and musical performances evoke the spirit of community and patriotism that typified Australia's fighting spirit in 1914. When the Empire called, Australia answered. While Australia’s young men went off to battle, the war effort at home was marked by dozens of demonstrations of support including Empire Day concerts, and Red Cross and YMCA fundraising events.  A Patriotic Event revives these gala spectacles for the modern day.   QUMS joins forces with UQ Pipe Band, Brisbane Excelsior Band and many others in this great tribute to our World War One Heroes. Ticketis start from $15 available at apatrioticevent.org
