Polonia - Polish Association of QLD
18:00 – 22:00
You are cordially invited to QUMS' annual Academic Dinner!  There will be food. There will be drinks. There will be fancy dress. There will be toasts. There will be awards. And you can bet there will be singing.  This year we're pleased to announce that there's no up-front ticket costs. Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect, and then you can simply buy whatever dinner and drinks you'd like on the night.  We'll have awards! Who's been quietly (or not so quietly) been making your section great? They're our Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass of the Year. Who's shone bright from the start? They're our Fresher of the Year. Who's gone above and beyond in every way? They're our QUMSian of the Year.  We might even have a few cheeky extra awards, for people who've done something iconic and unique in a way that doesn't quite fit the normal groove.  We'll have toasts! And since we are a choir, there will be some singing involved. Please familiarise yourself with the songs...

St Andrew's Uniting Church, Brisbane
15:00 – 17:00
Lest we forget. QUMS' latest concert focuses on the themes of Remembrance Day. Join us as we sing through two hauntingly beautiful pieces by Gabriel Fauré and Ralph Vaughan Williams!  Ralph Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem pleads for peace in vivid colour and insistent rhythm. Gabriel Fauré's Requiem lulls the soul to rest.  Both pieces feature up-and-coming soloists from UQ: soprano Jacalyn Adcock and baritone Jia-Peng Yeung.  Transport options are plentiful for St Andrew's Uniting Church. The church is across the road from Central Station and a short walk from the buses of King George Square, Adelaide St and the Queen St Mall. And for those who come by car, $5 weekend parking is available at Council's Wickham Tce and King George Square carparks.

IMPORTANT: Fill in the Camp Transport form too, so that we can organise lifts. “ ...And this one time, ...when I was at a Choir-Camp...” One weekend each semester, QUMS will host a Choir Camp. This is a weekend retreat, from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon. As well as being a lot of fun (themed dress-up night, musical revues, board games, and more), we workshop and rehearse in-depth for the upcoming concert. Camp weekends are the cheapest fully-catered weekend away you’ll ever get! Attendance is very important, as it equates to several rehearsals worth of learning. Transport, dietary requirements etc are all catered for. If you must be absent try to make at least a part of the weekend, and discuss with your Section Leader and Musical Director. Payment plans are available, so no drama if you have any financial issues! Just talk to our friendly treasurer Nelson Vermeer :) If you have First Aid skills, let us know :) Please note that mobile phone reception isn't great. It's a little bit off the grid for a reason! FAQs Camping/Tents??!!  NO! No tents. Real beds are provided in dormitories of 4 people, so you can "get a room" with your friends. Or make new ones. Bring your own bedding/sleeping-bag. Food? Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner - all prepared in a great kitchen. We all take turns helping out as required.  Allergies and dietary needs? We ask everybody a comprehensive set of questions so that we can feed you all properly and safely! Ablution blocks? Accomodation is cabin-style, with showers/toilets in separate blocks. Bring thongs (flip-flops), your own soap and towel! Tell Us a Joke!  A time-held tradition... You may get "banged-up" at dinner and put on the spot to stand up and tell your best/worst joke.  So be sure you bring a joke to share. Fancy Dress? The theme for Saturday night dress-up is Halloween! Talent Show? Another time-honoured tradition: After dinner on Saturday, we entertain each other! If you have a favourite song/ditty/parody or act that you can entertain us with, the stage is all yours for your crack at fame. Or infamy. Judges will decide the winner - but they are easily bribed with chocolates / favours / pretty much anything, so bring along a suitable "incentive" :-) Older QUMSians call this event "Revue". Alcohol?  We want to still be in top form on Sunday morning – partying until 3am on Saturday night doesn't achieve that. There are also insurance issues.  Day-trippers? Some folks may not relish the idea of overnighting in anything other than their own feather beds. If this is you, you have the option of commuting (it is a good hour+ drive) each day. Be sure to arrive by 8:30am. If you arrive earlier, you may be rewarded with a hot breakfast. COVID-19? We'll have plenty of hand sanitiser. PLENTY. If you're feeling sick, probably better that you don't come to Camp. Refunds are available. We've also compiled a list of health professionals in the area should we need them. We will cancel Camp if it comes to it, but at this stage we don't think we'll need to. Everyone will be refunded in that case, so don't worry.    The full Camp Info Sheet is available here. The Camp Transport Form is available here.

It's a big... wait, this is the original, not the ad.  Carmina Burana is one of those big classic choral works that absolutely deserves the hype. It's a bit of a QUMS tradition to perform it once a decade for this reason, and we're delighted to partner with the Queensland Conservatorium to present it this year!  We'll be accompanied by Mr Christian Gante and Ms Kylie Los each on piano, as well as a selection of excellent percussionists.  We'll be performing at Redeemer Lutheran College, in the Kleinschmidt Centre Auditorium, starting at 3pm. Lose yourself, for you will be found.    Let QUMS take you on a journey for our first major concert of the year, as we explore the deeply personal themes of loss, grief, yearning, discovery and salvation.  We're especially proud to be premiering two new works this concert! Why Fly So High is by John Rotar, a young Brisbane-based musician and composer and part of the extended QUMS family. Down To The Water is by Christian Gante, who is not just an incredibly talented pianist in his own right, but our accompanist too.  QUMS is conducted by Guillaume Lemay-Yates as Acting Musical Director.  There will also be a raffle, with lots of great prizes to win!   QUMS accepts Companion Cards for those accompanying paying patrons with disabilities.  UQ is easily accessible by public transport, and car parking is free on weekends. Taylor Range Country Club
14:00 – 17:00
You're invited to QUMS' Academic High Tea (not dinner) for 2020! This year, we're doing things a bit differently... we're having a slightly more casual afternoon get-together.  Join us for a fabulous afternoon get-together, some celebration, and even a bit of singing!  Some food and drinks supplied - but please bring a plate to share too! (The ticket price is much lower than it usually is this year - but in exchange, we have to do a bit more ourselves.) Click here to see what other people are bringing! Former QUMSians and +1s are very welcome.  Since we don't have a Camp this semester, we didn't have a Revue either - so we've allocated some time after 5pm for singalongs and individual performances.
