QUMS organises a Choir Camp during one weekend per semester, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Camp will include lots of fun social activities, including a themed party on Saturday night, a revue, games night, crafts, as well as intensive workshops and rehearsals for the upcoming performances and our end of semester concert. Attendance at camp is quite important as it equates to several rehearsals worth of learning and practice time (not to mention it's a fun weekend with a bunch of cool people (if we say so ourselves)). The price of your ticket includes: Per head accommodation / attendance cost at the venue for the duration of the event All catering (breakfast, lunch, and dinner for full weekend campers, lunch and dinner for day trippers + tea and coffee and snacks) Professional music direction, conducting, and accompanist for the weekend (a.k.a Guillaume and Jerica's time, skills, and experience) Social activities, (friendly) competitions, and good vibes.  If you cannot attend the entire weekend, consider participating in at least one day of the weekend. However, be sure to communicate with your Section Leader and the Musical Director if you cannot attend for the full weekend as we may need to work with you more closely to ensure you're caught up with the practice that you'll miss.  If you have financial concerns, we don't want you to miss out! Tickets on Sale Now - see below and press "Get Tickets" button to purchase.  QUMS is proud to present our Semester 1, 2025 Concert, Home - a memoir in movements, conducted by Guillaume Lemay-Yates and accompanied by Jerica Lau, performing a selection of music representing feelings of home, love and obscure sorrows. The concert features the world premiere of Ravens by Evangelynne Ennis and Preface by Cloud Tan, as well as the Australian Premiere of André van der Merwe’s arrangement of Bright Blue’s Weeping and Kenneth Tay’s A Summer Full of Flowers. We'll be rounding out the repertoire with some new choir favourites by household names such as Ysaye Barnwell and Astrid Jorgensen.  Location: The concert will be held in the GHD Auditorium, which is inside the Advanced Engineering Building (49) at The University of Queensland, St Lucia.  UQ is very accessible by public transport, bicycle, or car. The best parking is the Grassy Knoll car park (P11) or on Sir William MacGregor Drive near-by. A limited number of accessible car parks are available closer to the building. Every year, QUMS sings at the midnight memorial ceremony for ANZAC Day in the city centre, hosted by the charity group Toc H Australia. We will be performing Abide With Me, Be still my soul (finlandia), as well as the Australian and Aotearoa (New Zealand) national anthems. A few of us will also be heading to Pancake Manor after this performance, so please join us there if you're not too tired afterwards. You are cordially invited to QUMS's annual Academic Dinner!  Come enjoy a two-course dinner, toasts, awards, and, of course, singing to close out a wonderful 2024. There will be food. There will be drinks. There will be fancy dress. There will be toasts. There will be awards. And you can bet there will be singing. The dress code is formal so make sure to bring your fanciest self! We'll have toasts! And since we are a choir, there will be some singing involved. You may familiarise yourself with the songs here. On the night we will also have several awards to celebrate the many choristers who have contributed to this wonderful year of QUMS. Some are selected by the outgoing executive, and others will be voted awards. Voting will remain open until the week of the event! Please bring ID if you'd like to come to karaoke afterwards! QUMS is proud to present our Semester 2 Concert, Anthology: Verse Meets Chorus - conducted by Guillaume Lemay-Yates and accompanied by Christian Gante. A compendium of poetry set to music, we are delighted to showcase Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Hiawatha's Wedding Feast, featuring the talented Kevin Gomez (tenor) as the voice of Chibiabos, "the sweetest of musicians". We will also present a selection of other gorgeous works: Stars (Ešenvalds, Teasdale), Schöne Fremde (Hensel, von Eichendorf), Sure on this Shining Night (Lauridsen, Agee), and African Medley (van der Merwe, trad & Makeba). QUMS members and members of the broader UQ community are invited to join us for an in-depth vocal workshop on Saturday 10th August 2024!  The workshop is free for everyone! Get to know our talented guest musical director, Joshua Clifford, who will be making his QUMS debut with this workshop. He will cover a range of exciting topics, from an introduction to straw singing to the basics of voice care for the ageing voice, transgender and nonbinary vocal health, and postural alignment. We will also sneak in some extra rehearsal of our repertoire for the semester, Anthology. Josh is an expert in running vocal workshops and we are very lucky to have him!  For new members especially, this is a great opportunity to really develop your singing skills and to get to know other members of QUMS, so please be sure to come along! The workshop will take place on campus at UQ St Lucia in the Llew Edwards room (14-219) and run from 9:30am - 2:00pm with breaks throughout. Bring your lunch, your QUMS music if you have it, and a water bottle. Specialist equipment (read: straws) will be provided. Looking forward to seeing everyone for what should be an amazing day!!

Welcome to our newest choristers! We would love to get to know you. Join us for a very chill picnic at Southbank on Saturday 3rd August - bring a plate, a friend, your dog, whatever you like! We will meet at 12pm in Southbank at the Riverside Green which is near South Bank Piazza - see images below. Please bring some food to share and a picnic blanket or camp chair. Hope to see you all there!  We will hang out, play some games, and maybe get icecream afterwards if it's warm enough. Can't wait to see you there :)  

We will be performing with the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra in City Hall! This is a fantastic opportunity.  The calls are: Saturday July 13, Rehearsal from 10am to 3pm, at UQ (building 14-219). BYO lunch. Monday July 15, Rehearsal with Orchestra 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Balmoral State High School Hall (corner of Lytton and Thynne Roads) Sunday July 28, Concert Day, Call time 12pm, Concert begins at 2pm at City Hall.

QUMS is a community choir open to all members of the public regardless of age or musical ability, with no audition requirement. You don't have to be a UQ student or alumni to join! New members are always welcome, so come and try us out - we would love to see you there! More information is available here. QUMS rehearses at the University of Queensland (UQ) St Lucia Campus, on Wednesday nights from 7.00 PM to 9.30 PM with a break in the middle.  For our first rehersal of Semester 2, 2024 we will be rehearsing in 50-S201 in the Hawken Engineering Building at UQ

Last edited: 5th June 7pm As a post concert celebration and mid-exams break, we will heading out to Maleny Bird World where Christian volunteers to explore their gardens and aviary. Maleny Bird World is home to over 600 native and exotic birds from around the world. We will be to walk through and get up and close personal with the birds. There will also be time to explore the gardens and generally hang out together. Ticket Price include entry to Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World. Maleny Bird World is an approximately 90 minute drive from UQ. We will meet at 10:30am at the Gardens, and then attend the 11:30 tour of the aviary.
